Camp Awakenings is a year 9 youth camp, founded by Michael Weiser and Sandi Seiger.
I was lucky enough to be a leader on Camp for ten years. To put this in perspective, one of the original mottos of the Camp was 'youth working with youth', so I was twice the age of the other leaders, and in some cases three times... The first Camp I did, I was there only as a supervisor from Rotary. I realised immediately that (A) Mickey and Sandi didn't need supervising and (B) I was having so much fun I had to find some way to make myself useful so they would let me come back... So I turned into the 'official' photographer. (It was either that or demonstrating how bad a dancer you can be.)
Camp is non-stop, loud, chaotic and frequently wet. There are very few times you have more than a few seconds to set up a shot - the best you can do is try to be in a position where you have a chance of shooting it if something special happens. (Like seeing another Leader with a bucket of water - that usually means there's going to be a special moment!).
These are some of my favourite shots, but they really don't do it justice. You had to be there. :) Thanks again to all the Team over the years for sharing it with me.
